Guide to the Bandit Quest in Path of Exile

By Path of Trade

Complete guide to the “Deal with the Bandits” quest in Path of Exile Act 2. Learn rewards for helping Oak, Kraityn, or Alira, which is best for your build, and how to change your decision later.

The quest "Deal with the Bandits" in Path of Exile takes place during Act 2, and while it may seem like a basic moral choice, it actually provides permanent passive bonuses that significantly affect your character’s power and flexibility.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through what each option gives you, how to choose based on your build, and how to change your decision later if needed.

1. Where the Quest Happens

The quest is given by Eramir in the Act 2 town (Forest Encampment). You must confront three bandit leaders:

  • Oak, located in The Wetlands
  • Kraityn, in The Broken Bridge
  • Alira, in The Western Forest

You can side with one by killing the other two, or kill all three and return to Eramir.

2. Reward Options

Each bandit (or Eramir) grants you a permanent reward that fits different builds:

Help Oak:

  • 1% Life Regeneration per second
  • 2% Physical Damage Reduction
  • +20 Strength

Great for tanky melee builds or characters focused on physical defense.

Help Kraityn:

  • 6% Attack and Cast Speed
  • 3% Chance to Evade Attacks
  • 6% Movement Speed

Best for agile builds, fast mappers, or evasion-based characters.

Help Alira:

  • +15% to All Elemental Resistances
  • +5 Mana Regenerated per Second

Perfect for casters, crit-based builds, or anyone needing resistances early in the league.

Kill All and Help Eramir:

  • 2 Passive Skill Points

The most flexible option — ideal for builds that scale through the passive tree or want custom allocation.

3. How to Choose the Best Option

Your decision depends entirely on your build. General guidelines:

  • Tanky melee or defensive builds benefit from Oak.
  • Speed-focused or evasion-based builds do well with Kraityn.
  • Casters, crit builds, or resistance-hungry setups prefer Alira.
  • Min-maxers or custom build creators often go with Eramir for flexibility.

Tip: Most build guides clearly state which bandit to choose. Check your guide first!

4. Can You Change Your Choice?

Yes! With the Bandit Respec Recipe, you can switch your decision later by offering:

  • 20 Orbs of Regret
  • 1 Onyx Amulet

Give these to Eramir, and you’ll be allowed to make a new choice.

Always check with a trusted build guide, and when in doubt, the 2 passive points from Eramir offer unmatched flexibility for nearly any build.
